International Women's Day 2009 in Glanymor & Tyisha
To celebrate International Women's Day 2009, Communities First staged an event at Morfa Social Club today.
Running from 10 until 4pm, the day was opened by Nia Griffith MP and started with performances by Copperwors School choir, Lakefield School recorder group, Morfa Infant School with a Welsh Folk Dance and Bigyn Primary School with disco dancing. Then there were poetry readings, followed by a buffet lunch.
In the afternoon, there were performances from many cultures: Bollywood; Korea; India; Thailand; and Africa. There was also drumming, salsa and belly dancing. Many performers then held workshops in their dances for everyone to get involved with.
With a range of fantastic and inspiring performances from so many cultures, backed up with fun workshops, everyone had a superb time.
Carmarthenshire Connect attended the event to encourage people to take photos using the project's mobile phone cameras. Here are some of the photos taken by attendees:

This was an excellent event bringing women from all backgrounds together to celebrate the Goddess within! Well done to everyone who worked so hard to make it the success it was.
